REGAINE Rules for All

The basic idea of the REgaine is similar to most ROGAINE-style events. This usually means:
You run. — You locate things in the woods. — We add your score. — You win or lose.

The uniqueness of this particular event however has some rather unusual specific rules that some may find confusing. The following will attempt to clarify the concept. Originally conceived as a relay-type (team-based) event, it quickly became apparent that many individuals wished to partake of this format. To allow for these individuals, we created the "Lone Wolf" category. From the very first, our concern was to insure the safety and well being of all competitors. To accomplish this, we have been tweaking the rules each year, particularly the amount of time we allow an individual to be in the forest, alone, at any given time. Additionally, we want this event to be as entertaining as possible with a good mix of endurance strength, strategy planning, and navigation. Therefore, these rules have been developed with careful consideration of all these factors in mind. With that said —

All instructions and rules given to competitors by meet officials throughout the event MUST be followed or the competitor will be required to leave the competition area IMMEDIATELY!

General Event Structure and Rules for All Competitors

Rules specific to "Lone Wolf"

  • The stages of each Block for individuals are classified as a Run stage and Rest stage.

  • Throughout the event, an individual has a choice as to which sequence to do the blocks and what in what order to run/rest each stage within the block. (Example: For the first block, the individual decides to Run 5 hours then Rest 1 hour. On the second block, Run 3 hours then Rest 3 hours. For the third block, the competitor is getting tired so he Runs 2 hours then Rests 4 hours. Finally, during the fourth block, Rest 2 hours and Run 4 hours.)

  • Declaration of Block sequence must be made before each block begins and may not be changed "mid-stream".

  • A competitor may NOT run back-to-back stages at any time throughout the event. They may rest on back-to-back stages (as in the last block of the example above).

  • Any individual returning AFTER a stage time limit has expired will have a PENALTY delay of three times their overtime amount ADDED to their NEXT running stage. Time is figured from an individual's arrival at the start/finish tent. (Using the example above, the competitor returns to base camp at 9:15 P.M. in the second block. He may not start his next run stage in the third block until 12:45 A.M. (15 min. x 3 = 45 min. added to 12:00 midnight). The competitor must still return before the end of this 2-hour run stage, or receive additional penalties).

Rules specific for Teams

  • Only ONE individual of a team may be in the woods at any given time.

  • Each team MEMBER may visit a control only once throughout the event.

  • Throughout the event, the team has a choice as to which sequence to do the blocks and in what order to do each stage within the block. (Example: For the first block, the team decides to have member #1 run 5 hours then member #2 run 1 hour. On the second block, #1 runs 2 hours and #2 runs 4 hours. For the third block, #1 runs 3 hours and #2 runs 3 hours. Finally, during the fourth block, #1 runs 4 hours and #2 runs 2 hours.)

  • Declaration of Block sequence must be made before each block begins and may not be changed "mid-stream".

  • The running order of teammates must be maintained throughout the event. If any individual drops out from the competition the team may continue minus that individual but still in order less one. (No running back-to-back stages as with Lone Wolf's).

  • Any individual returning AFTER a stage time limit has expired will have a PENALTY delay for the team of three times their overtime amount ADDED to the running time. This penalty will be assessed on the next runner. Time is figured from an individual's arrival at the start/finish tent. (Example: Using the sample above, in Block II, team member #1 returns to base camp at 8:15 P.M. Team member #2 may not start his stage until 9:00 P.M. (15 min. X 3 = 45 min. added to 8:15 P.M.). Runner #2 must still return before the start of the next stage (Block III) or receive additional penalties.)

All examples above are just that, samples of possibilities. Not required formats. Remember that this is an event for our entertainment and enjoyment. Have fun and enjoy. Lastly:

All instructions and rules given to competitors by meet officials throughout the event MUST be followed or the competitor will be required to leave the competition area IMMEDIATELY!
