Saturday-Sunday, March 7-8, 2015
Happy Valley Wildlife Management Area & Camp Zerbe, Williamstown, NY
CONDITION REPORT — Saturday, February 21, 2015: Snow conditions
haven't changed substantially from the update of February 9. The base presently ranges
from 1.5 to 2 meters of settled but very loose and soft granular (lower portions) and
powder (on the surface) from the latest in a series of storms throughout the month of
February. The only saving grace this weekend for Barb and me was that the extremely
cold temperatures last week stiffened the snow pack enough so that, with semi-large
snowshoes, we only sunk in about 18 inches, instead of the "normal" 24 inches of the
previous two weekends. All marshes and swamps that we've crossed are definitely frozen
with only open water at very fast flowing streams. Forecasts are for continued cold
(well below freezing) temperatures for a couple more weeks, so anticipate conditions
to be relatively the same for the event. We'll post another update only if a multi-day
thaw happens prior to March 7, 2015. — Mark Dominie|
