Two June Orienteering Events
Camp Gustafson, Lime Hollow Nature Center
3277 Gracie Road, Cortland (not the visitor center on McLean Road)

Orienteering is a sport involving use of map & compass to navigate the forest on foot. Orienteering is good for walkers as well as those who like to run. These events are open to the public and will start from the Camp Gustafson at 3277 Gracie Rd., Cortland, NY.

Weds June 13 - Evening Score-O

Mass start at 7PM, find as many controls as you can within the 60-minute time limit
Come early for instruction: intro or refresher on map & rules
Map fee is $8 per map, $5 for club members, $1 per extra person sharing a map

Sunday June 17 - Daddy-O

Three courses will be offered. You can choose one, two, or all three.

  • Sprint course: map scale 1:2,500; runners can finish in 12-15 minutes
  • Score-O: map scale 1:5,000, find 10 controls worth 1 point each, no time limit
  • Medium course: map scale 1:10000; runners can finish in about 30-35 minutes

SportIdent electronic scoring will be used.

Large groups should pre-register. Pre-registration is not required but helps us make sure of having enough maps.

We'll have novice, intermediate and advanced courses to try. You can do 1, 2 or all 3 of the courses! SportIdent electronic scoring will be used. Instruction will be available for those who are new to the sport. Instruction starts at 10:00am. You can start each course any time between 10:00am and 12:00 noon.

There is an $8.00 map fee for non members and $5.00 for any members of an orienteering club. Free refreshments provided. Large groups should pre-register. Event held rain or shine, please dress for the weather.
