Highland Forest Park, Fabius, NY — Valley Camp (42.81245 N, 75.91551 W)
For the 25th year in a row, the Central New York Orienteering Club is happy to offer Scouts and other youth groups a chance to learn and practice the art of using a map and compass. As has been tradition, we offer two separate events.
Registration Form and Waiver: Each group must submit a registration form for the event and a completed waiver for each participant, whether youth or adult.
Fees: $7 per person for one day or $10 per person to do both days, for entries postmarked on or before October 25. For later entries, fees rise to $10 per person for one day or $14 per person to do both days. Register early: the first 300 people receive a fun custom patch. Registration forms and payment should be sent to: Stacy Pendell, 321 State Route 38, Locke, NY 13092. Forms may be sent by email but registration is not complete until payment is received. Please make checks payable to either "Central New York Orienteering" or "CNYO".
Event will be held outdoors regardless of weather. Trails may be muddy.
Directions: Take I-81 to Exit 14 (Tully, NY). Follow Route 80 east for 10 miles, passing through Fabius, to the park entrance on the right. At the gate, continue straight south into the park (not left toward Skyline Lodge). Follow orange-and-white orienteering signs to the meet headquarters. Here is a locator map. Headquarters this year will be Valley Camp, down the main park road about halfway to the south end of the park. The road gets rough but there is parking near Valley Camp.
Camping: Tent camping sites at the Cedars Tenting Area may be reserved at a cost of $20 per group for the weekend. Campsite selection is first come first served. You can set up anytime after noon Friday. Please indicate on the registration form whether your group will be camping on Friday night, Saturday night, both nights, or not camping.
Help Wanted: Older, orienteering-experienced Scouts may be able to fulfill badge or service requirements by leading map hikes for younger Scouts. Please contact us to volunteer.
Questions: If you have questions about the events, please contact Stacy Pendell (315-729-2894, sjp16 @ cornell.edu) or Jim Clark (315-298-3181, jckcjhnr @ frontiernet.net).
