WHAT: A ROGAINE style event for winter hosted by CNYO, spread over two 8 hour days. You and your partner(s) visit a series of controls of varying point values by foot, skis, sled, snowshoes.... etc. Starts each day at 8:00 am and you must finish by 4:00 pm or suffer the penalties. An attempt will be made to depict the most recent trail grooming status on the map at the time of event. Anticipate as much as 50% of the trails to be ungroomed (will depend on prior snowfalls). Warm refreshments will be provided at Home Base at the end of each day's competition.

WHERE: Home Base is the Civilian Conservation Corp Building, County Rd 90 (at Bargy Rd), Mannsville, NY.
From I-81N: take exit 38 and turn left onto US-11 N to Mannsville and follow directions from Mannsville below.
From I-81S, take Mannsville exit 39, then take county route 90 east through Mannsville. About 2.75 miles out of Mannsville, county route 90 meets Dixon Road and turns to the right. This route bears left at the intersection with Wart Road and then right at Brown Road. The historical CCC camp is another mile down the road on the left. From the east take Jefferson County Route 92 to Jefferson County Route 90. Proceed west on County Route 90 for approximately 2 miles. The CCC Camp is on the right.

MAP: Winona State Forest, (map scale to be determined, roughly 1:25k-1:30k).

FEES: $$60.00 PER PERSON pre-entry. $75.00 PER PERSON day of event. You must pre-register by February 25th to ensure a pre-marked map. No entries accepted after 8:00 am Saturday, February 29th.

RULES:

  • Members of each team must remain together at all times for safety.
  • Teams must return to Home Base on Day 1 by 4:00 PM or will be penalized with a delayed restart on Day 2 of three times the amount overtime (i.e. 4:30 PM return on Saturday equates to a 9:30 AM restart on Sunday.).

  • Any team returning to Home Base on either day later than 4:59 PM will be disqualified.

  • Teams must carry appropriate nourishment and liquids to compete in a cold-weather endurance event.
  • Meet officials reserve the right to cancel or shorten the duration of this event AT ANY TIME due to extreme weather conditions.

WEATHER CAUTION FEB. 27: For those of you paying attention to weather reports or know of the lake effect snows that are falling now and predicted to continue through tomorrow afternoon, these are local events which can create blizzard conditions (0 visibility). Travel on roads can be dangerous when the lake effect conditions appear abruptly.

We suggest that as you approach the eastern Lake Ontario section of I81 (or other roads in the area), pay close attention to both the weather radar and note if there are lake effect snows still falling and how traffic is affected (such as orange or red roads on waze or google maps) and adjust your travel plans accordingly.

The parking lot at the CCC (start/finish) will be plowed, but depending on additional snowfall/drifting there is a chance we may need to park on the side of Mannsville Road as overflow.

Please take great care traveling to Snowgaine, it's gonna be an amazing 2 days of rogaining. Some of you did your Snow-dance TOO WELL.... thanks!
