"Summer" SNOW-O!
The season's first Wed nite training event will usher in something new
for CNYO; spring training ON SNOW! Originally scheduled for the Dominies'
place, the late season snow blocking the road to our house (the short way)
has forced us to move it to The Nordic Center x-c ski area across from Greek
Peak downhill area located on Rt. 392 east of the hamlet of Virgil. Count on
still being able to ski and/or snowshoe EVERYWHERE. Even the open fields are
still covered with as much as 6-36" (yes Ann, REAL inches) of snowpack. We'll
even send you to a location where the snow is approximately 20 FEET deep. I
wonder how you would map a snow pit if I dig a hole in it?
Warm weather by mid week should make conditions rather soggy by evening (start any time after 6:00pm) but still should be fun.
If the SI (electronic punching) units are delivered in the next couple of days we may also do preliminary tests of these units.
Bring some goodies and we'll start a charcoal fire for an evening cook out.
Instruction: If you're new to orienteering and/or want instruction, tell the meet director and he'll buttonhole a CNYO member to help you out.
Fees: Usual $2 per map weeknight training fee applies; no member discounts.
Starts: Meet at the warming hut at the Nordic Center. Starts any time after 6. (I assume this means "after dark" is off limits; if you *really* gotta do a night snow-O you can take it up with Meet Director Mark and any emergency search & rescue folks you happen to know. - WA).
