Map Overview

Klondike State Forest Map Scale:
   1:7,500 (White, Yellow)
   1:10,000 (Orange, Green, Brown)
   1:15,000 (Red, Blue)
Contour Interval: 2.5 m (all maps)
Base Data: LiDAR (1-m spacing) flown in 2008, Kucera International Inc., Willoughby, OH;
   New York State GIS Orthophotos (1-m resolution) flown in 2003 and 2006
Field Checked: Spring 2011, Barb and Mark Dominie
Drafting: DMJ Cartographics
Printing: CMYK offset by Graphics Plus Printing, Inc., Cortland, NY

The new Happy Valley map being used for the 2011 U.S. Two-Day Classic Orienteering Championships has terrain similar to that of Klondike State Forest, West Amboy, NY, used during the 2008 North American Orienteering Championships (see the map sample to the left) except that Happy Valley has more large wet/swampy areas and fewer ferns. Each course's map for this event is custom printed and will have minimal layout data. A map legend will appear in the event booklet.
Maps of Klondike State Forest are available for $5.00. Please contact Barb Dominie ( sochopx @ aol.com ) for more information. Directions to Klondike State Forest (43.37208 N, 75.98741 W) are as follows: Take Exit 33 from I-81 and head east on SR 69. At 11.3 km (6.8 miles) from I-81, turn south (right) onto CR 26 and proceed just under 500 meters to the first left-hand turn onto Cusson Drive. Proceed "through" West Amboy until the paved road ends and turns into a very narrow dirt road in the State Forest.
